stars dancing

Listen to poem:

Stars Dancing

She stepped into the mirrorball's light,
Wearing the Milky Way, sequined and bright,
The band eased into three-four, nice and slow,
A spiral galaxy pirouette — here we go,
She swirled like a comet, tail catching flame,
The crowd cheered and screamed, calling her name.

I felt the room start spinning round,
Lost my gravity, left the ground.

Ooh, we're stars dancing, lost in the light,
Stars dancing, spinning through the night,
No heaven waiting, nothing left to find,
Just stars dancing, baby, leave your doubts behind.

Watch the nebula swirl in her bright blue dress,
Her constellation sewn in with a stitch or two,
Cha-cha through glitter, tango 'cross the floor,
Waltzing round Saturn like we've done before,
Judges want a ten, but that don't mean a thing,
When the whole wide galaxy starts to sing.

I felt the room start spinning round,
Lost my gravity, left the ground.

Hey, we're stars dancing, lost in the light,
Stars dancing, spinning through the night,
No mystery calling, nothing left to find,
Just stars dancing, baby, leave your doubts behind.

Yeah, we're stars dancing, lost in the light,
Stars dancing, spinning through the night,
No heaven waiting, nothing left to find,
Just stars dancing, baby, leave your doubts behind,
Ooh, it's stars dancing, out among the light,
Stars dancing, we could dance all night,
Nothing up there calling, nothing left behind,
Just stars dancing, dancing cool and kind.

Yeah, it's stars dancing, in the stars, in the stars,
A spiral galaxy, spinning where you are,
Ooh, stars dancing, dancing through the night,
Mmm, stars dancing, dancing in the light,
Stars dancing, in the stars, in the stars,
Nothing above us, baby, only stars,
Yeah, stars dancing, dancing, dancing on,
Ooooh-ooo-oo,
Stars dancing,
Yeah

A glittering, high-energy dance lyric that marries ballroom movement with cosmic imagery in a wonderfully playful way. The recurring chorus has an infectious, singable pulse, while images such as the mirrorball Milky Way, comet-tail swirl, and waltzing round Saturn give the song both spectacle and warmth. The steady movement from verse to lift-off refrain captures that exhilarating, gravity-free feeling of being carried away by music. As usual your musical rendition just made the experience of the poem deeper. Congratulations on your placement in the contest.
