Starlight
Listen to poem:
Starlight
As I lie down gazing skyward
With the darkness black as ink
As my eyes adjust to heaven
As my brain declines to think
A connection re-established,
As in wonders of the womb,
Invades my very being
As those stars parade their room
Like the vastness of the ocean
As the life within it teems
There's a hopeful adulation
Singing out within my dreams;
That when the light's extinguished
As the days come to their end,
The world that I inhabit
Will call me out as friend
When we return to stardust
In that firmament of love
Those white angelic pin-lights
Will call us back to home above
And soon there will be singing
As we gather in that space
For the Wizard of Creation
Has designed for us a place.
My hands now behind my head
And my eyes now closed in prayer
With my future written in the stars
I can journey without care.
So the special place I'm given
Has importance nonetheless
In my roaming through this kingdom;
Every day a chance to bless.
So awake now to my journey
And the purpose there within
No longer looking downward
At the yellow path's brick skin.
We just have to be authentic
And the truth will stand the test.
Every light that shines uniquely
Sends it's pulse out to the rest
May the cloudless skies now resonate
In my empty chest of tin.
Oh, to know the ancient starlight
Close to heaven's veil, so thin.
