Notes About The Poem

Stardust Serenade

Dear sunset girl
(the moon's pale pearl) -
from Heaven you fell
(or a wishing well)
in a starlight swirl,
like Tinkerbell.

I suppose
your wrinkled nose
and twinkling eyes
and twinkle toes
(my gay surprise)
is my new grand prize.

Before boy and girl,
in starlight's swirl,
('fore that inkling,
my eyes a-twinkling)
in a star's dust,
like all things must,
there blew a gust -
but who could hear
one so dear
in the music
of the spheres?

As you were made,
who heard
the stardust serenade?
