Standards
Do men today
Find it hard to agree
A gentleman's word was his bond
Years ago, you could believe me.
After a diplomatic discussion
Before agreeing on a deal
The men would shake hands warmly
Making that deal sealed
The trust between these gentlemen
It was not unusual in times past,
A promise was a promise
A contract made to last.
Respect for each other
Was expected by all,
It costs nothing to be civil
And helps standards not to fall.
I understand that life
It is not all black and white,
But trust and respect
It would help to put most things right.
How much easier
Everyone's lives would be.
If we turn the page
To read this trusted recipe.
