Notes About The Poem

Stages of Gathering Dust

Youth speeds out the driveway slings
dust and rocks, leaving mayhem
Accelerates, wrecks occur in wake
Those youthful little gems_

Adults settle somewhat yet still
gathering dust 'pon faults.
Able to brush away the dust
Clean up rest with bath salts.

Seniors worst personality traits
Like dust gathered just stay
Hanging upon every deep rut
Unless strong efforts play.

Winter with cold, rain, snow, and sleet
Won't wash the dust away
The winter of youth's life will cling
Gathering dust more each day

What a lovely observational poem. Did you mean to type "brush" in the third line of the second verse? Thanks for sharing.

Dear Sara, You have a gem here! Perhaps if we can learn to live our lives more fully and more carefully, we will not gather dust. Very profound, my friend. Wishing you success in John's contest! Love, carolyn

I love how your wrote this, Sara! Great metaphors for how we gather and accumulate the dust of our lives. GL in the contest. Hugs, Sandra
