St Valentine

Love barred in, I met him, The cleric, Teacher... The Christian. He'd been jailed, For practicing, The joining of Love's Hearts The Emperor Sought young men For War, They could not marry anymore. But love's enshrined' In hearts, in minds, Thought The Pastor Valentine In Secret lovers came to wed, And Ignored The law of Emperor Said They Say Loves Blind, But loves Hand so kind, Took the blindness From my eyes, As this teacher prayed For me, I once was Blind, but now I see. My heart Entwined, And his with mine. But marriage bliss the sacred kiss, Was not to be For him and me. My love, My Teacher, Pastor, Friend, Has met me past the bitter end For his love was True you see And in true love For him and me Love will last Eternally Death Took him, But Life Took him too, Took him to Light, To Love so true. No one could kill The love of mine, It lives on with St Valentine.

This is so well expressed as is your response to Andrea. I like as well the formatting of the poem. The aesthetic adds to the overall experience.

Thank you Andrea. I love Saint Valentine. What a beautiful precious heart he had. Sometimes it is hard to celebrate on Valentine's Day when I think of why we honor the day; a saint was martyred, that's sad. At the same time, we do celebrate the goodness of love and that is a wonderful thing. We have told our kids about our dear brother in Christ over the years on St Valentine's Day, we don't want to forget the reason behind the day, but still have a good day with sharing love through cards and everything fun. I was blessed to write this in tribute to him this year. I'm so glad you like it <3

Thank you Judy! Sadly, the legends are a bit hazy on St Valentine. I did some research, but there are contrasting stories. I did like this version I read years ago. It is sad but sweet.
