Spreading Sunrise With a Butter Knife

I opened up the sunrise And used a shiny butter knife to Spread it across the horizon I watched it melt over a fresh, Warm new day There was the dark memory of Evening still lingering Like black coffee the strange Shade of moonlight faded slowly as the day wore on
