Spoken Words

Not just aimless oscillations
in the space between you and me,
spoken words are a bridge
that spans the separate shores
of our distant minds;

they are an artist's brush
that tints and tinges the canvas
of our points of view
about ourselves and others,
about the world;

they are a sculptor's chisel
that carves, shapes our feelings,
thoughts and even longings,
not aimless oscillations
between you and me.
