Spiritual Warfare

All religions speak of spiritual warfare
Usually best understood as an inner struggle
Of discerning what is true
And what is false, within one’s own heart
Within one’s own life and actions.

But there is an exoteric meaning as well
As good and evil struggle in the world around us.
Modern people have no problem defining good
But increasingly have trouble with defining evil.

Maybe this is because we have increasingly
Become evil ourselves.
Let’s let that sink in;
We have become evil.

And in being increasingly infected by evil
We can only see ourselves as good
Living the good life, fighting the good fight,
Not against actual evil,
But against straw boogiemen 
In the name of social justice.

What is social justice after all?
A vague sense of democratic (mob) rule.
Real justice isn’t social 
(Some majority defined morality)
And it isn’t cosmic
(Some idealistic projection of universal morality)
It is simply the rule of law,
With justice being dependent on laws
And their equal application.

But real spiritual war exists
In the world and within ourselves,
And it is a battle 
Between good and evil.

Each of us always has the choice
To choose a side and fight
Or defect any time we want
Change our mind, change our heart, life and direction.
The choice is always ours.
