Spirit of Youth
Oh, spirit of youth, sweet lark of spring,
That once within my heart did sing,
Why have you flown on golden wings,
And left my soul to wither?
Oh, spirit of youth, your silver song
Restored my hope when life went wrong,
Braced up my faith and made it strong,
But now that song has ended.
Sweet spirit of youth to me replied,
"I cannot dwell where love has died.
A heart that's hard and cold inside
May never know my favor."
