Spirit in the Night
Spirit in the Night
Kevin Davis, 2025
In the stillness of night, where shadows play,
A whispering spirit had found its way.
Cloaked in the wonder of things unknown,
It wrapped around me like chills I’d never known.
Though it claimed to be friendly, I still felt fear,
Yet quiet curiosity drew me near.
Through walls and ceilings, it danced with glee,
A specter of riddles unknown to me.
Then slowly it wore a familiar face—
My father’s kind eyes, his gentle grace.
Yet in that form I questioned what I saw:
Was this just a trick my dreaming mind had drawn?
His laughter rang out, a melody sweet:
“Child, I’m here to show you life’s true heartbeat.
In chaos and worry, don’t forget how to play,
For the weight of the world won’t bend your way.”
Each word like a lantern shining through fog,
Illuminating thought as I sat like a log.
“Find joy in the small things, in laughter and cheer.
Let worries dissolve—they linger too near.”
He spoke of a love that outlives the earth,
Of moments that matter, of kindness and worth.
Then lightly he drifted, like leaves on a breeze,
Reminding me softly, “Live simply, with ease.”
As dawn’s early light began to appear,
I woke from the dream with my heart full of cheer.
Though physical ties may loosen with time,
Love leaves behind its own quiet rhyme.
Now I walk through each day with a lighter heart,
Finding joy in the little things, playing my part.
For my father’s reminder still rings crystal clear:
In each gentle moment, he’s always near.
So, as I keep traveling, with love from the past,
I’ll treasure each smile and make laughter last.
Though life may twist darkly or cloud into gloom,
His spirit forever still brightens the room.
