Author's Notes:  I wrote this "Septet" entitled:  "Spill Ink" to honor all poets in our profession who work so hard and and know all too well the difficult work associated with researching and writing a poem late at night into the wee hours of the morning.  I've used the "Septet"  poetic format which consists of a seven-line stanza of varying meter and rhyme.  In this Septet, I employed an AA BB CC rhyming sequence in the first six lines, followed by a final asymmetrical line, "D" for special emphasis and set off from the symmetry of the original rhyming sequence.  (Note:  With this poem, I chose to craft all of the verses in Iambic Pentameter rather than going with varying meter.)  For me, as a poet and writer, it was quite important to capture a vision of the "Spill Ink" mantra as it relates to what all of us do and try to accomplish as poets.  (Gary Bateman - October 18, 2014) (Rhyme Septet)

Categories:  allegory, dedication, introspection, muse, philosophy, poetry, and poets.

The technical parameters of this Septet are rendered as follows:

Syllables Per Line:  10

Total # Syllables:  70

Total # Lines:  7

Total # Words:  49

Rhyme Sequence:  aa|bb|cc|d

Meter:  Iambic Pentameter

Spill Ink—the poets’ timeless warp and woof; Signifies our mantra beyond reproof; Late at night as poets struggle to write; Our Muse enchants poets to such delight; Poets seek tone and tenor for a splash, And images and nuance for a dash. "Spill Ink!” Poets cry seeking perfection! Gary Bateman, Copyright © All Rights Reserved (October 18, 2014) (Rhyme Septet)

Olive . . . Muchas Gracias Senora!! I do really enjoy the metered writes. I particularly liked doing "Spill Ink." It quite succinctly describes what we struggling poets actually do and it does so with few words. I always write Author's Notes which accompany all of my poems as posted. Take Care and Stay in Touch!! Spill Ink!! Gary!!

I can relate to this poem, Gary, and I wish I could give it a 10 rating. It's a true portrayal of what a poet experiences! And I sometimes wonder what the neighbors think when my lights go on and off at night as new thoughts come to me and I have to write them down before they fade from memory. If they think I am entertaining, they are right! I am entertaining the Muse to visit as often as it wishes! And thanks, for reading my Thoreau Poem. Blessings, Darlene

Thank you, Gary, for saying you intend to follow me. I welcome this and will do the same with you. I understand this does not mean commenting on every poem, but occasionally checking in with each other. Poet friends share a special bond through the love of poetry. And can uplift, support, encourage and share their thoughts with each other. I welcome this! I'm living in Ca. Hope you are doing well in Germany. I have never been out of the USA.

Thanks Arthur!! "Spill Ink" is, of course, a metaphor and I'm glad no ink spilled on one of your last (literally). Cheers and Best Wishes, Gar
