Author's Notes: I wrote this "Septet" entitled: "Spill Ink" to honor all poets in our profession who work so hard and and know all too well the difficult work associated with researching and writing a poem late at night into the wee hours of the morning. I've used the "Septet" poetic format which consists of a seven-line stanza of varying meter and rhyme. In this Septet, I employed an AA BB CC rhyming sequence in the first six lines, followed by a final asymmetrical line, "D" for special emphasis and set off from the symmetry of the original rhyming sequence. (Note: With this poem, I chose to craft all of the verses in Iambic Pentameter rather than going with varying meter.) For me, as a poet and writer, it was quite important to capture a vision of the "Spill Ink" mantra as it relates to what all of us do and try to accomplish as poets.
