Special Things

Life is full of surprises some good and some bad 
Many regretful surprises in my life i have had 
I find that i stay more content as life passes by 
If i make sure not to set my expectations too high 
When you learn to accept to each their own 
And to be who you are and let it be known 
When we are young and patience are few 
We are often let down by what others may do
We most times will listen but don't really hear 
And completely avoid the things that we fear 
We put so much focus on material things 
But not so much on the joys life truly brings 
Sad but true we usually won't know what we had til it gone 
With far to much time spent on who's right and who's wrong 
But as life progresses and we start to mature 
We grow from struggles we all have to endure 
We start to pay more attention to smiles and to laughter 
And we realize that making others feel good is all that we're after 
When receiving a hug is when our heart truly sings 
Is when we learn what's important are these special things
