Sparks That Once I Knew

On my first employment after school
Apprentice electrician was my vacation
there I worked with many tradesmen
many lessons learned for my occupation

My first spark was a guy called Neily
who hailed from way up at Benbecula
he was a real highlander, no doubt
also good at soccer, quite spectacular

Then there was big Andy, 6 feet tall
having fair curly hair, drove a mini car
he was really nice and kind, so I learned
liked the girly mags, quite blue by far

Now, Drew was really different by far
always felt in awe of him, so strong
made one shed a tear, odd at times
but at heart, he always meant no wrong

John J was around my age
a likeable lad, always meant well
the boss was his uncle, made it hard
a spark would ignite when he rang your bell

These were some fun days
but due to being colour-blind, I resigned
wonder what happened to these guys?
maybe one day I'll find the truth

(In the UK, spark was a nickname for an electrician)
