Souper Duper

I know of a poet here on the Soup
He is a sham; he has everyone duped
Most poems that he posts are not his own
But quotes from others, rearranged, and donned
So it appears he has written them, though he has not;
He just uses their words, without a referencing thought
Each time I see one, I wonder, what thrill can there be,
In hoodwinking others, in copying?
What sense of accomplishment can he possibly feel,
What pride? What joy? With words that he steals?

You tell me, is he a genius or a conman, but before you do,
Know with his plagiarized work, he’s placing higher than you

9/14/11

Received 5th place in "Genius or Criminal?" contest

*Please note I am using ‘he’ but it doesn’t mean this person is male, nor does by saying this does it imply the person is female. Also, I will not tell you who it is, even if you guess the name of the real person.

Rewrites are common in poetry: Yeats' 'When you are old,' Fitzgerald's 'Rubaiyat;' Beaudelaire learned English just to translate Poe; it's said his are better. But they all salute the one from whom they borrow. I saw a blatant, not well done 'lift' with no attribution, so I don't open that one's anymore.

That was funny when you said below here, that for all you know it IS a member of TPS. I doubt reporting it would accomplish a thing because one guy on here using different personnas to annoy people has been complained about a lot, and nothing is ever done. As for this poem, I don't understand what is derived from doing this AT all, Susan. And like Chris says, it's not fooling the educated people here. Hope you do well with this poem in the contest, sweetie. LUv, Andrea

Why would one even want to do that? I'd see it if it made money, but this is like work for nothing. 'Fame?' There isn't any.

won't venture a guess Susan but this should be reported to TPS aministration quickly as it has happened in the past ... nicely penned ..honest and straight forward.. if this person is winning contests and the work is not original ..the person will be deleted from PS by Administration... so let me know if I can help u luv.. just send them a soup mail from home page..
