Songs of Hope
Songs of hope ring out this night
People gathered under street lamps
Naming those who have died
In United States led detention camps
We now hear how much they lied
Our bowed heads with many tears
Each drop a life separated inhumanly
Children left scared and facing many fears
What happened these last few years?
Was this hatred always simmering
Under the crust of apple pies
While singing about the land of the free
And you told us more of your lies?
Candles burning like a tempest angerly
The inhumanity so clear to see
Stand up to become a human forest
With the world we’re rising and crying
A shame filled unified chorus
Politicians finally shamed, replying?
America! Your ancestors fled the same
Unblock deaf ears to victims’ plight
People, don’t stop this much needed fight

I feel this poem is like a folk song from the 70's that helped get the word out to people about bad things that were happening...there are bad things happening today and we need to start getting vocal and telling people whats going on.
