Notes About The Poem

Listen to poem:

Song For Charlie

              I heard the news today
about the killing of a young man.
He was just sitting there with a microphone
and just like that he was gone.

I heard a gunshot in the air
and saw up close the screaming crowd,
a peaceful man armed with words I saw
but no words are worth dying for.

All this man ever asked was
prove me wrong and change my mind,
but they couldn’t do it, Charlie,
and that’s the power you leave behind.

The media call it hate speech
but all it is it’s free speech they hate.
They say “we didn’t pull the trigger on you, son”
but they sure as hell loaded the gun!

              They silenced Charlie Kirk
the only way they knew how.
              They shot him dead
for all the things he said
but all he spoke was the truth
across this land to our youth.

All Charlie ever wanted was to debate
and they killed him to feed their hate.
They snatched his life from his family
to silence his voice in you and me.

              But they never will…

              You loved God, Charlie,
              and He loved you.
You loved your kids and wife
              and they love you.
              You loved your country
              and your country loves you!

I love this song. I loved Charlie. He never hated anyone! There were so many lies told about him, from the left. But I don't think the left did this. Or if Robinson was involved, he didn't act alone. There are too many unanswered questions. And I think there were other motives why someone wanted him dead. Am I a "conspiracy theorist"? Maybe. But you know what they say, the only difference between a conspiracy theory and the truth, is just a matter of time. Anyway, great song Keith

Hi Becs. I’ve been called a conspiracy theorist hundreds of times but never get an apology when proven right…again and again. Whether the shooter acted alone or not I don’t know but his mind was poisoned by left wing radicalism pushed by our education system, the media, and Hollywood. Liberal kids today think Christian values and capitalism is the problem and nihilism and socialism the answer to all their problems because they think everything will be free. That’s how dumb and misguided they are. That’s why western civilisation is in freefall. Nice to see ya.

I'm glad you wrote this. Some (liberals) seem to think that free speech is their domain alone. May Charlie's work continue.

Charlie was murdered because, it is ' free speech they hate. ' You're exactly right ! Such a sad and twisted world we live in. His voice will be heard, even more so now, than before.

Lovely to see you, JR. Yep, sad but true. His death has given us renewed hope but we all have to be Charlie now. Happy birthday for tomorrow, girl. Sending a hug from down under.

I wrote it when I was angry the day after his death but I realised I was being hateful too so I re-wrote it. Charlie wouldn’t want me to stoop to their level. This is the second kinder version. Thanks John.

Your words are perfect. I'm more interested in his words now so the assassination didn't work. I hope more debaters come forth. Thank you for this verse.

All they killed was the man. They’ve made sure Charlie’s message will live on when they’re all dead.

John 15:18-19 “If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you. If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.” Tom MacDonald has done a song too, check it out when you get the chance. I like your song and I am glad that you are brave enough to stand up for the truth.

Charlie was the brave one. His life would have been in vain if we let the cowards and haters win. I just saw Tom MacDonald’s song - brilliant, love it. Like Tom says, I’m one of Charlie’s foot soldiers. Cheers.
