Something we can’t explain

To explain what we are Is a difficult thing to perceive It’s something to strive for But you wouldn’t achieve It depends on the audience And what they believe One may say we are just animals But with emotions like disgust and grief Another will tell us we evolved from something That lived deep down the reef Or we can compare ourselves to monkeys Like we compare a branch with a leaf Because like that, one will not be here without the other But this theory doesn’t bring me relief There’s a certainty: Our mystic life here is brief Thinking we can explain what we are Leaves us just being one thing: naive
