Something To Hold Onto

Something surreal to hold onto
like bubbles and transient shapes in the mist
whispers of wind at your back when you’re praying
and sunsets you closed your blue eyes and missed.
Pattering wings of your conscience on glass
at the window of all of your deeds
and yearnings unspoken eternally broken
as wants buried deep under needs.
Something so real to hold onto
like nights when we don’t fall asleep until three
thoughts flying out of the vault where we keep them
brilliant deliverance of bated breath free
Laughter infectious and silly
Fishing for life’s impeccable gift
Riding the earth as it spins toward the sun
Spending our youth on a white knuckled wish
Something surreal to hold onto
like shadows in nuances held in your voice
a chronic desire as frost to the fire
of losses consoled by your internal joys
Someone for me to hold onto
with might and with valor and zeal
The rest of these things only memories bring
but you are the reason I feel...
