Something To Begin

Long ago I had it in my mind
It's too broken to fix at one time
Glued the pieces together and went again
And allowed something to begin
Now it's much, much too late
Forgetten is the key to the gate
There from within the gaping hole
Time has won it's ultimate goal
It sit's there gathering dust upon that shelf
And still that sinking feeling within myself
How long has it really been
Since I've seen my long lost friend
A half dozen years or more
Those who hear are so floored
I simply don't know where to start
If only I really were that smart
When all that's there is open space
Where belongs the heart in it's place
Can't let it seep within
The contents of the lonely den
Or allow something to begin
