Something More Than Myself

The bullets I’ve taken for everyone else
Have left a permanent scar on the tip of my tongue
You’ll see it when I open my mouth to speak my mind
My tongue shows that my mind thinks for all the rest
Who can’t speak for themselves or are just plain afraid
Of what will happen to them if they slip up
I speak for them and take the blame
So that a vast majority won’t face their shame

I tried so hard for something more
Than myself, no benefit to me
I tried so hard for everyone else
Who most assuredly won’t see
The fruits of my labor and the sweat of my brow
I’ve worked so hard and now they want me out

Another week has come and gone and I haven't been able to read as much this week as I had wanted. I am glad I was able to read your poetry today Mike A. Keep your pen scrolling don't let the ink dry up. I hope you have a wonderful weekend of sunshine and joy and find lots of inspiration along the way. Love, Carol
