Something I Should Know

Tell me you want me to wait for you
Tell me you want me to stay
Tell me you can't see your life without me
And that you want me to wait

Tell me you need me sometimes
Tell me you can't make any promises
Tell me there are things you don't understand
And I'll wait until you know what love is

But if you want me to let go
This is something I should know...

The look in your eyes when you think of me
Still shows something deep inside
And you can't say you don't still love me
Or there wouldn't be tears in your eyes

A long time ago, I fell in love
And hid my heart from the very start
Not long ago, I lost your love
And it tore my world apart

But if you want me to let go
This is something I should know...

I can tell you that I love you
I can tell you how much I care
I can even try to show you this
But it's hard when you're not here

I can tell you all the reasons why
I can tell you what's to come
I can tell you that I understand now
Why you felt you had to run

But if you want me to let go
This is something I should know...

I'll wait forever if you asked me to
And hold on to all our dreams
Until you are strong enough to see
That it is our love that's meant to be

Or I can let go if you asked me to
If this is what you need from me
The love remains, locked inside
But only you can set it free

If you want me to let go
This is something I should know...

But if you want me to wait
If you believe it may not be too late
If you still have any love for me
Say the words that my heart needs

With expectation or apology
This is something I should know...
