Someone I'M Not

There’s a lot of places
To be someone I’m not
A façade to keep up
Hoping I never get caught

Acting cool, like I got it all straight
If they only knew what’s underneath
Acting strong, like I got all down
Fearful inside, they’ll see what’s beneath

Keeping up appearances
Keeping up the outer shell
Keeping up my defenses
Keeping up the inner hell

Got them all fooled
Yeah, that’s what I think
Only fooling myself
Bordering on the brink

It’s me that’s got the answers
To the questions that they ask
Pretending I am something
Hiding behind this mask

But I will keep on holding fast
To this pretentious façade
Never letting them see
I’m something that I'm not

J.B. - Sounds like the man I used to be - In fact I was so good at it that I convinced myself I was that person - My wife broke down all those walls and now I'm just me - I loved the openness of this poem for it reveals a little piece of who you truly are - God Bless, MJ
