~ Someday ~

Driving along the coast with Casey and Jimmy

Doing the highway one journey, heading north

Three friends, starting at the inland port

Of Long Beach and The Queen Mary

Upon our way, toward the other cities aside the sea

Laguna, Venice, Sunset Beach

Redondo, where the surfers surfed

And the fishermen cast their lines, from upon the pier

Spent the night at Sunset, sipping brandy and watching the waves

As their crest glistened beneath the sparkling stars and brightened moon

Venice, with its vibrant crowd....

Rollerblading, amid all of the colors and the smiles, of its sunbathed throngs

We, upon our way towards Malibu, where we would make our final stop

A private retreat, shared with wonderful friends....

A bonfire, with a glass of wine, a beautiful girl, and an oceans tide

Laughter and celebration; happy birthday; and warm loving hands~

And at the end of it all, I stared upon the horizon

Beyond its disappearing blue, and beneath, my very own searching eyes....

So that I could realize and hear, as the silence stood still

Truth, and a voice inside of me, that told me

That this is not only for you; but it is for all of life....

Life, as I wrapped my arms about the rising sun

And then I blew a kiss, into the sky and unto them all

Thinking, smiling, knowing....

That someday, this will all be theirs

Heading north, with all of my friends...."Someday!"

Great time, the imagery puts me right there but, prefer Florida with my friends. Remembering 18 when I was at Daytona and a Prince had a plane fly with a banner, welcoming me to Florida. I'm to old to remence. Pardon me.

Reading this confirms my original thought that you're out west in that extraordinarily beautiful state of Cali! Hope you had a wonderful Birthday this year too, John! Love, Audrey

Such a wonderfully graphic write John. I just love all those American place names that have been imported from around the world, so romantic. One of the reasons I came to Italy was because the UK has lost its sense of romance and beauty. Love, Nigel

A beautifully nostalgic piece, John.:) Fine moments, friendship, and just enjoying the essence of the moment. A grand legacy that we will wish to pass onto others. I see that you have revamped your work. Some of it will go, some will return, and the new will enter. But you will always keep the essence of the YOU.:)...not a bad thing, to my way of looking at it. Thanksgiving here, I'd better get that turkey out of its water bath. =/ God bless you and yours...love to you...Mikki

What a wonderful memory, John, this moment in time with your buddies! I am familiar with all those places on the So.Calif. coast. Until I was 10 yrs old,we lived in that region.I remember going down to Long Beach, near the Pike, with my family, lighting bonfires, catching the grunion in buckets that washed up on the shore, roasting weiners and marshmallows. That was a long time ago...as was your wonderful poem about the good old days! What a sweet, nostalgic ride you took me on.~Blessings,Carrie
