Somebody Laughing

Somebody Laughing

I dreamed I called your number
and when you picked up the phone.
I heard somebody laughing
I knew you weren't alone.

You said I was mistaken
that you were doing just fine.
I asked if you remembered
back when you were mine.

You said you do but you've moved on,
you hoped I'd be okay.
I heard somebody laughing,
I didn't know what to say.

I asked about your family
you said everyone was great.
That you had someplace to be
and you really can't be late.

As I said goodbye to you,
I said I'm sorry for the call.
I heard somebody laughing
I wasn't dreaming after all.

Just a stepping stone. :) Some lessons in life are more ugly than others.

Nice rhyme! Clever tale. Kinda sad. I picture a caring man calling an old flame that he still loves and she is pretty much mocking him. Enjoyed! Thanks for sharing!
