Soldiers Return

Soldiers return

I lay
Half asleep
In my bed
As a new television show
Appears on the screen.

A woman
With ribbon tied over her eyes
To hide her sight
As her husband
Walks in the room
Wearing Army greens.

He slowly takes it off
As tears fall down her cheeks
As she holds him
In her arms.

A small child
Comes from her room
With a big smile
On her face
As she jumps on her father.

Her head rest
On his shoulder
As she quietly speaks
"I missed you daddy."

His lip quivers
As he cries softly
And says,
"I missed you too. I'll never leave you again."
