So Now You'Re Mad

So, now you're mad.
You asked my opinion and begged my ear
and foolishly I spoke my mind
but it wasn't what you wanted to hear
   and you reacted most unkind.
You said a hurtful thing in painful sharp defense
and then massaged it sorely with another
leaving me to sulk and build my own created fence
as my anger and frustration you would soon discover.
I can play the blame card too,
without thinking regretted words begin to leap
spurt quick and sharp they spewed
then in the verbal passing cut both hearts deep.
So, now I'm mad. as well.
Our friendship once survived the years
but hateful words tear us apart
and in our separate veil of tears
we no longer share one heart.
Like the bonds that once drew us together
each word and look, took us farther out of view
and all that now remains is the stormy weather
and a fading friendship strained anew.
It's become a war of words
   where nothing bends or blends
and the spirit ill affords non-harmonic discords
as long lasted friendship now comes to an end.

Two things here, first I am reminded of something my mother would say to us as kids when we said we were mad and I'm still to this day unsure of its meaning. Which is " if your mad then scratch your donkey (ass) and be glad". Your guess is as good as mine for that meaning. The second, is in regards to when people ask for advice and not accepting once given. Now that one for me means they just wanted. me to agree with them. Well obviously Babbitt your words inspired this ramble!

I was told a saying by an old lady I looked after - three things never come back, the spoken word, the sped arrow and the neglected opportunity... think there are times we all wish we could turn the clock back and take back the words we said. Sad situation you write about DM - but that's life:-( hugs jan xx
