So Many People

So many people do things
That they don’t do very well.
The strangest part, to me, is that
They often cannot tell.

You know the type – the artists, cooks
And entertainers, too,
Who proudly peddle or perform
But haven’t got a clue.

They’re lucky to be unaware
That talent they do lack
And if they face rejection, well,
They’ll give it one more crack.

Yet if they get enjoyment
From their hobby or their work,
Perhaps that self-indulgence
Is sufficient as a perk.

This may be why I am addicted to the TV show "the Voice" - so many come out, acting arrogant, talking themselves up, saying they are going to blow the world up with their talent and they get a NO chair turn.

Over 100-years ago, Ma Bell did a work study which concluded that any group of people would sink to the lowest level of performance to maintain group harmony, i.e, high performers would get the boot, and sloths would be welcomed and nurtured. Today, one can't pass kindergarteners without hearing someone say, "Good job!" Enjoyed, Ilene! Aloha!

So true. Some bakeries in my community have no cake that is worth eating. And I mean ZERO. It is frustrating because I love cake. The chocolate’s too sweet — sugar being cheaper than cocoa; too much cinnamon is bitter etc. Not only do the owners not have a clue, but the populace shopping there has no clue.

Love it, Ilene. I could name so many… but we’re only allowed 400 characters. I wonder if you’ve recently observed just such an individual who inspired this write. Let’s face it, they’re not thin on the ground. Terry
