Snowfall

Not a sound to be heard
 no one and nothing stirs

frozen earth rises solemn but awake
 to kiss each silent flake,

floating in a pattern etching
 white crested lines stretching

touching sky to land in every pass
piled drifts crushed against browning grass,

even wind is silent and still
as the snow begins to quickly spill,

and every place you see is white
mesmerized by snowfall in winter's delight.
