Snapshots of Mirrored Pains

splayed on a lavender altar
lilac scents the air
crimson droplets gut the darkness
with a surgeon’s flare

dreadfully different
seasons proceeded to pass
perspectives appear as broken faces
etched on fractured glass

teardrops fall in amber pools
churning foaming suds
casualties of the fever
that lost the drive to love

in an empty room solitary
I sat on a vacant chair
precision snaps audible cracks
affirmed moments to beware

as the second-hand repeatedly swept
the clock tallied the toll
unrelentingly
slow

seconds echo a gunshot
minutes target a soldier
hours chisel tombstones
in orchards of granite stone

eyes close in silent demise
