Snakebitten

“Where did they go? The snakes that put this venom inside of you That left you writhing in pain on the inside While they slithered off to live their lives And claim more victims And how is it that I come across you now Deep into your affliction Your spirit, and possibly your life, hanging in the balance Hallucinating in your pain To the point where I am just another one of them Even when I say I love you, and mean it You swear you hear hissing Coming from my lips When I kiss you, do you fear fangs? Do you imagine more blood drawn? More pain? I can’t say I blame you In fact I understand You have a reason not to trust But what saddens the most Is that I see you Downward spiral to death Lacking the tools, the knowledge, to save yourself And you’re too wary Too cautious To allow someone close enough to help You don’t have to give me anything Not your secrets, not your body, not even your heart All I want to do is put my lips on wherever it is That they all injected you with this pain And try to suck that deadly darkness out of you.”
