Notes About The Poem

Smoke and Mirrors is another poem I played around with to turn into a song. The music gives more depth and meaning to the lyrics. The poem is based on true feelings - what I see and feel in life.

Smoke and Mirrors

It's all smoke and mirrors, just a masquerade,
living life in shadows, in a world we've made,
hiding all the battles that we fight inside,
putting on a smile, like it’s all a joyride.
Trying to be strong, but the weight's getting heavy,
while the world keeps spinning, got to keep it steady.
You laugh and you play, like it’s all a dream,
but underneath the surface, it ain't what it seems.
It’s smoke and mirrors, pulling all the strings,
dancing on a tightrope, oh the magic it brings,
but when the night falls and the curtains come down,
the truth rushes in, and it drags you to the ground.
Yeah, it’s all smoke and mirrors, hiding your pain,
faking all the pleasure, pretending it’s a gain.
It’s all smoke and mirrors, it’s hard to ignore,
it’s all smoke and mirrors, till it aint no more.

Everyone’s got stories, that they never share,
living in the shadows, gasping for the air,
each day’s a struggle, every night’s a fight,
caught in the cycle, lost in the dark night.
Behind the front, a tough game we play,
trying to convince ourselves it's all okay,
you put on a show, and to the world, you smile,
but deep down inside, all you want is a while.
When you feel lost, just take a breath,
you're more than your struggles, outsmart the stress.
Look in the mirror, see the truth in your eyes,
there’s strength in the struggle, there’s no disguise.
You’re not alone here, in this game that we play,
let the smoke clear out, let the night fade away.
True life in daylight, no more running scared,
in a world that is honest, we’ll all be repaired.
