'smiling Faces'

They leer at your soul

as you shrink into your role

     ~ withdrawn in your hole...

Hey, I was too, actually, Bobby, my man: My original version's last line was 'a bottomless hole.' So 'go-for it!.' ~ Wood Chuck

Had me singing "Smiling Face Sometimes" (they don't tell the truth)by the Temptations when I read the title. The poem speaks that so loudly. Nicely done my friend.

Exactly(!) what I had in mind, my friend: Those 'smiling faces' --- beware! Smiles, Gershon

I should have picked up on the quotation marks around the title... Like Mo, (below) I was surprised by the poem. That is a packed 3 lines! "shrink into your role"... wow. Dang this is a FAV for me.

Hey, thank you so much, M.M! As for expectations -- As my spiritual guru tells me, "Don't never have none, Wolfman!" LOL. Cheers, Gershon
