Slumber Murmur

In the dark when I cannot sleep
I reach for the books that I keep
on the locker beside my bed.
Flicking the pages soothes my head.

It's your baby books my dears.
Guaranteed to bring me cheer.
Sweet memories bring sweet slumber.
I dose as your names I murmur.

They record their first step, first tooth, first lock of hair etc. With loads of photos. Much more soothing than Winnie to me.

I remember my G.P. telling me a story about a mother of five. The first one, she had fretted over about potty training. The last one said to her one day. " Mammy you know I don't wear nappies now?"
