Sleepy Time
A hard day of play is at its ending.
It’s time to rest the body and the mind.
Get lost in the dreams the Sandman’s sending.
It’s sleepytime…
A bedtime snack uneaten on the table.
A testament, a witness, and a sign.
They try to hide the yawns but they’re unable.
It’s sleepytime…
So, grab your favorite blankie or your teddy bear.
Your head on Mommy’s shoulder, hand entwined in hair.
I’ll tell a little story if you say your prayers.
Then close your eyes. It’s sleepytime…
Just one more little hug and then I’ll tuck you in.
You fight, but it’s a battle you can never win.
The rising sun will tell you when the day begins.
Just close your eyes. It’s sleepytime…
Now, slowly, surely they drift off to Neverland.
At last they leave the busy day behind.
Perhaps as they grow older they will understand.
It’s sleepytime…
It’s sleepytime…
It’s sleepytime…
