Sleepless Night

It’s dark,
The silence wraps around me tight.
I’m alone
And I can’t sleep.
The moonlight shines through my window
Keeping me awake.
Thoughts of nothing
Run rapidly through my mind.
Look at the clock and regret it:
2:30 AM
And I’m still lying here
Eyes wide open
Staring blankly at the ceiling
Barely visible in the dark.
Hours pass like minutes
And minutes pass like hours.
Soon the morning comes
Betraying me as the sun comes up
Forcing me out of bed.
Eyes heavy,
I rise and start my day.
