Sleeping Dogs

Sightless staring from the window into the gaping jaws of darkness, slowly snapping shut in cataclysmic silence. Nightfall drops a veil on daylight’s tapering play; crushed diamond velvet closes shark-like in stealth. Sandman’s stun-gun fires a kiss at eyelids swept with tears; winding down this body clock, shutters drawn on pain. If dreams are all the life there is, then let them collapse the sky to still the mouths and yellowed teeth of sleeping dogs left to lie.
