Sleep
While on my side
I hear the sound of a ticking clock
My heart
It pounds in my ear
Counting the seconds I cannot sleep
Time flows endlessly
Impatience fills me
I think of my breathing
I think of the saliva in my mouth
I think of the sun that will come
I must empty these thoughts
Tomorrow quickly becomes today
I am awake
The sky lightens and dawn breaks
I am still awake
The smell of breakfast seeps into my room
The sound of chatter, the horrid laughter of the rested
Yet I am still awake.
And then there came a tapping...
