Slave To the Mind

They unlock the chains from their hands and feet but not the mind. Laws with no reason walk the thin line. Physically able but mentally enslaved. Brake down emotionally is taken to the grave. The white man speaks of the burning cross in the South. Run away to freedom, is only word of mouth. Free from what; cotton fields and house slaves? Sign freedom papers but you’re still called “a slave”.

We are all slaves in one way or another. Some to money some to bigotry, some to the past, some to the person they imagine they wish to be. I only know of one way to be set free and that is a conversation for another day. Another thought provoking piece, well done.
