Skyline Silhouettes
I sit half crouched in a rickety chair
My gaze riveted on the porthole
A fuzzy mirror to the outer landscape
Begins slowly to unscroll
A lanky ray peeps within
And falls on my droopy eye
I strain to catch the morn's glow
As day prepares to drag by
A silhouette grim and dark
The limping guard, I fathom
Sound of jarring footsteps
Echoe with staccato rhythm
Twisting forms trespass through
With rumbles of storm unseen
My mind churns in unison
Torn into tiny smithereens
Like an urchin's grubby face
Descending splashes of rain
dripping down as oblong tears
Are traced on the grimy pane
Trickling water seeps through cracks
Forms murky puddles below
A rat scurries to lap it up
Before nibbling my dead toe
Sieged by death like silence
All forces now seem spent
My reinless musings merge with
Macabre shadows on the vent.
