Sixty Plus Verses Teenager

Can remember when being a teenager
so free and easy could see no danger,
but things you do seems a lot stranger
mobile phones, computers, life's arrangers,

must have been boring without technology
no google to find information like psychology ,
Without knowledge you don't have theology,
unable to understand everyday terminology,

we had books, libraries, calculators, brains,
no games consoles or any other brain drains
exploring nature without technological chains,
with social media, no community remains,

we can communicate with each other quicker
face book, whatsApp, email and twitter,
with iPads, desk tops, no need for baby sitter,
life's better now so don't be so bitter,

being sixty plus I'm still learning new skills
enjoying life supported with prescription pills,

being a teenager our world is full of thrills
easy access to all that's bad like illegal pills.

Great comparison between then and now, Roy. I love my computer and phone too though. So, I can easily understand how the teenagers of today can get hooked on them. I am too! However, I do feel parents should put limits on how much their child uses them and parental control is a must.

Thank you very much Carole, I totally agree technology has many benefits also many things that are harmful especially to our young, thanks again for your support and encouragement. :))

Funny and yet sad. I believe the youth today miss out on so many of the little things in life that bring most joy. Well written Roy

haha. LOVED the line "life supported with prescription pills" I never had one pill to have to take in my life before i got cancer last year. So unexpected! I felt very healthy and always felt the bones would be my "biggie" Now I take all kinds of supplements and prescribed pills for prevention. My daughter who does my hair says it has never looked better. Must be the awesome supplements but why the heck can't I get hold of medical marijuana for my aches and pains. hahaha

Thank you so much for your very kind comment Andrea, my wife takes around 12 pills a day I take one, I believe no one in 2017 should be in pain and if marijuana or cannabis relieves pain it should be on prescription, thanks again for your support and encouragement. Roy. :)

The teenager has so much at their fingertips and it is easy to be lazy and watch the world behind a screen...It was nice yesterday my teenage daughter and her friends just laughing and having a good time in my front yard...Well there were puppies too...So that helped...Lol...Great poem Roy

Thanks Tim, I am a sixty plus and I can see both sides as I see the benefits of technology yet regret our youth missing out on social side of life, who's right? Thanks again for your very kind comment and support. :)

oh how the world has changed Roy and not for the better in so many ways. The final stanza hit home as my sons 2 school friends (brothers aged 18 and 19 ) died as a result of drugs purchased on the internet ... I wrote poems for their memorial service and it was the first time I'd done my poetry on stage it was incredibly difficult but I got through:-( hugs Jan xx

Thanks Jan, there are good and bad things concerning technology, You are a brave lady, I wouldn't have been able to recite anything in those circumstances, thanks for sharing. :(
