Sisyphus

Sisyphus. The Might. Death now humiliated, chained by mortal king, will you remain with the dead ? No. This is not yet your realm. Sisyphus. The Craft. Hades now outraged, outwitted by mortal king, do you yet deceive the dead ? Yes. Such remains your realm. Sisyphus. The Hill. Zeus, now intercede, chastise the mortal king, will his eternity be spared ? No. Such is not his reward. Sisyphus. The Heft. Might fades, craft fails, contrite the mortal king, is the futility to endure ? Yes. Such is his reward. Sisyphus. Now Fall. 19th July 2020

Love your poem based upon mythology and the inherent evil of mankind. We are doomed as we are. Salvation is a gift. It can not be stolen or earned by deeds. A fav. God bless..

You told the story of this mythological character so well, Lawrence! Like Sisyphus, some of us try to do the same thing over and over, hoping to change the outcome. (Einstein's definition of insanity.) The might, craft, hill and heft add to this powerful poem. Very nice writing! Best wishes, Carolyn

Cheating death. Not possible. (We will all face that truth) However, it is possible to prolong life a little longer. Diet and exercise. Once again, you have posted another thought provoking write. Powerful indeed. ~ Brandy

You took us through a progression--for the legendary king condemned to fail. The essence of your poem I found in your final stanza--might fails--craft fails--futility endures. I learned something from your write today my friend, Lawrence. A lesson in Greek mythology!

I'm no authority on mythology at all, but Sisyphus has always held a measure of interest for me. Thanks for ongoing support, my friend, always appreciated.

I had to read up on Sisyphus, Lawrence. Did he eventually get the rock over the hill? A very interesting poem inspired by mythology! Best wishes, Carolyn

Every time he reached the summit, the rock would roll back down just before he could complete the ascent. And so it would continue for eternity. Thanks for visit and comment, Carolyn, good to have you here.
