Sister

She was not a saint, she was not an angel
     She was my sister,
          She was a mother,
               a grandmother,
                     a cousin and an aunt.
She was loved by us all
                 and also by others.
She was not a saint, she was not an angel.
    God will decide on that,
but she was saintly, and she was angelic
and will always be remembered as that.

As a sister who has written many poems for brother and sister, mother and father, it occurred to me reading this that none have written one for me. I'm not a selfish person, I think it is a human reaction, a flash that shall pass. I'm fumbling trying to say how special you are to love her so much that she has been immortalized by your pen. I'm touched. My bro died at 67 in 2022 but he's w/ me every day. Wonderful emotive, touching poem. CayCay

It's hard to be the last living link. I've a younger sister and a 90 year old Mother. I'm fairly sure, as much as one can be sure of anything, that my sister will be the last here. She and my Moma are 2,000 miles away, in Texas, and I will drive there in November. At 90, Moma isn't really Moma anymore but a sweet compliant smiler. She does know who we are. I feel you. We'll both see our people when it is time.

Thank you for your kind words Cay Cay. My sister, Antoinette, died on the 18th of September (2026). Last of my siblings (we were four). Even though she lived in Turkey and I in London, we were very close. My niece tells me that the priest cried at her funeral, he knew her well. Sadly, I could not go because of complications with a full knee operation.

She was more than that, Kim, she was my sister. Thank you for your lovely words.
