Silent Shoreline, Ocean Deep

The panorama's full-blown dreary My legs and feet uncommon weary Birds unseen, private counsel keep Silent shoreline, ocean deep My eyes espy a mallard duck forlorn bobbing up and down on white-capped waves His summer friends and feathers winter-shorn Would the icy water prove his grave? Hark! On far horizon a ray of yellow shines O, would the friendly sun return in time To lift the hearts of mallard duck, and me 'fore daylight plunges back into the sea

Your imagery is beautifully done; and mallards are the pretties ducks if they are males.

Thanks for the nice compliment, Caren. It was just 'ducky!' (Groan). ~ Spare the tomatoes, please. Eggs accepted right in the mouth

A wonderfully atmospheric poem, Gershon, with a touching reference to the Mallard that gives it poignancy. Just one small point: shouldn’t “Hark” (an aural imperative) be: “Look”, “See”, or even: “Mark” (for the visual). Sorry to be picky.

Thank you, Geoffrey. You are 100% right, of course... And yet, I'm staying with 'Hark,' which seems to flow so much better, using 'poetic license' as an outrageously egregious excuse! Thanks again, my poetic friend! You caught me red-handed and a bit red-faced. (I am a redhead to boot!) Best always, Gershon

'Who stole the sun' sounds like a great title/theme for a poem. You've got first crack at it... Thank you so much for your kind words. Appreciate all of your support, Sandra. Warmest wishes, Gershon

Gershon, your poem speaks eloquently to feelings of sadness and loneliness, and the rays of sunshine that often lifts the spirits. I really love the last verse. This is going in my faves. Best wishes, Evelyn
