Silence

Have you ever listened to the sound of silence?
The way it plays upon your ear.
The way it can lull your mind to sleep
Or conjure up a world of fear.

Have you ever listened to the sound of silence?
I mean, really listened to it clear
The way it sounds when your child is sleeping
Resting peacefully with you near.

Have you ever listened to the sound of silence?
The inaudible sound of good cheer
The way your heart plays a rhythmic tune
That only you alone can hear.

Have you ever listened to the sound of silence?
It can be as vast as a new frontier
Causing your mind to discover worlds
Above and beyond this hemisphere.

Have you ever listened to the sound of silence?
The quiet can seem so very sincere
But it can be destroyed in an instant
With the lowest, faintest uttered sneer.

So the next time you get the chance,
Really take the silence in,
Enjoy it to the very fullest,
For who knows if it will ever come again
