Silence

Silence keeps you locked up
Your emotions hidden, your dreams unreachable.
Silence keeps you from growing, your values not shared
Silence does not allow pain, hurt, or sorrow to be shared.
Silence says you're right , they don't understand.

Silence keeps the struggle within, another drink on the bar,
Another needle ready, another doughnut to be eaten.
Silence says you'll never amount to anything, you'll never do it.
Stay where you are, it's safe, blend in, be a face in the crowd,
part of the scenery,, a picture on the wall.

Silence allows the extra step, where no one knows, if you fail or not,
Silence allows you to be there without participating,
Silence allows the slow death within,
Silence allows talking, only with yourself
Silence allows you to keep delaying, in finishing the day,
Silence allows the prison, to be of you, yourself.

Silence is not Golden.
