Shout Out To April
I shout out to April,
where have you been,
are you hiding in the
pocket of spring?
Hints of your presence
are scattered here and there
as tulips pop up with their bright heads,
peeking around in the misty air.
Fresh spring rain washes your budding hair,
making it shine for all to see,
as newly-arrived birds appear,
singing their songs for you and me.
April, your arrival is fleeting,
always placing one foot out the door,
you are a guest with a short-term agenda,
here today and disappearing for a year once more.
I look forward to seeing you again
with your mystical wand waving about,
spreading spring time relief to the cold ground
by warming all when we give you a shout.
