Shortcut To Nowhere

I'm in a hurry,
Don't know why,
Have no appointments,
Don't plan today to die,

So what's the rush?
It's the American way
Get it done...
That very day!

I guess other peoples
Think we're weird
Perhaps we are,
Or maybe over-steered

Let's hurry up,
Finish this,
Get on with that,
Somehow we hope
To pull time from a hat

Worst sinners New Yorkers,
We work while we sleep
Always pondering
Some problem deep

Must be solved
Before the next sunrise
Or we've failed
In our own eyes.
