Shivers In My Soul

The rain is falling soft tonight
a cold chill fills the air.
I search the sky for stars above
not a single one is there.

Remembered times, forgotten rhymes
from nights I lost control.
From deep inside the tears I cried
like shivers in my soul.

With thoughts of yesterdays gone by
I wonder if it mattered.
All the dreams I used to dream,
I watched as they all shattered.

A shell of who I hoped to be
I remember me back then.
No one knows the strength it took
for me to rise again.

Like a shadow in the night
I felt you touching me.
My tears stained the paper,
you are my poetry.

The life I lived so long ago
the pain and the despair.
How I tried and how I cried
but there was no one there.

My pen it touched the paper
like a lover with my fingers.
The tragedy of me,
and how the memory lingers.

The wonder why of days gone by
it's been that way so long.
The choosing and the losing
and things that went so wrong.

Times I thought I'd lose my mind
I feared I'd go insane.
Though they're all behind me now
the scars all still remain.

My future looking bright it seems
I've not been here before.
The man I know I used to be
doesn't live here anymore.

Like a shadow in the night
I felt you touching me.
My tears stained the paper,
you are my poetry.
