Sherbrooke Forest

Speckled light through tree ferns flow
Down to the pungent forest floor below
While a black cockatoo up high screeches
Attached to me are some tiny leeches.

This is my quite place
My God-made sacred space
Where I alone can be
With wallaby, bird and tree.

The smell of humus explodes my senses
But it is here I can let down my defences
Crimson rosella sits on my hand
I feel its warmth on this ancient land.

I don’t need a flag to show l love the land
I don’t need something so ugly and grand
I am in her and she is in me
From the green forest to the turquoise sea.

That when He says it’s time to go
I will breathe my last and completely know
Of all the things of value and worth
Nothing’s more precious than Mother Earth.
